BuildaDraft is a free planning and estimating tool for shed, barn, garage, and building projects. It helps you specify materials, estimate costs, and generate detailed build summaries for planning purposes.

You can describe your project in two ways: (1) Type a natural description like '12x16 shed with 2 windows and metal roof', or (2) Use the guided builder to fill in each step (structure type, state, dimensions, roof, framing, siding, windows, doors). The guided builder fields override the text description.

Yes. Create a free BuildaDraft account from the Account page before generating full or quick estimates. Once you are signed in, you can save estimate history and upgrade later if you need more capacity.

We support 7 main systems: Open Frame (posts only), Post Frame (poles with girts), Stud Frame (traditional framing), Steel Frame, Masonry (CMU block), SIP (Structural Insulated Panels), and ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms). Each has different material costs and structural properties.

Options include Asphalt Shingle, 29-Gauge Steel (lightweight), 26-Gauge Steel (medium-duty), and 24-Gauge Steel (heavy-duty). Note: 'Tin' historically refers to 29-gauge steel roofing. Higher gauge numbers = thicker and more durable metal.

Prices are estimated based on material costs, quantities, and regional pricing multipliers for each state (0.88x to 1.35x). The cost-per-square-foot varies by construction system, materials, and state. Results are estimates only—actual prices may vary.

Yes! You can add any quantity of windows (fixed, single-hung, double-hung, sliding, casement, awning) and doors (standard, double, sliding, garage). Each is tracked separately in the materials estimate.

House wrap is a weather barrier applied to the outside of framed walls before siding. It protects against moisture and wind infiltration. It's typically used with wood, vinyl, or stud-framed structures. The tool adds wrap cost to your estimate.

Open sides allow your structure to have fully open walls on one or more side (front, back, left, or right). This reduces material costs and is useful for pole barns with open storage areas or shelter structures.

Check the 'Review before generating' checkbox, then click the button to preview your complete build summary (materials, dimensions, roof, framing, etc.). This lets you catch errors before generating the full estimate. Close the popup with the X button when done.

State selection is required because it applies regional pricing multipliers to your estimate. Select your state in Step 2, then you can fill in dimensions and other details.

Gable roofs form an 'A' shape with two sloping sides, common for traditional buildings. Lean-to (or sloped) roofs slope in one direction only, common for additions and simple sheds. Gable roofs typically cost slightly more due to the extra framing.

Options include Wood Floor (on posts/piers), Concrete slab, Brick, and Dirt/No Finished Floor. The choice affects material quantity and costs. Concrete typically has the highest material cost.

Finishes vary by framing system but include Metal (most common), Wood, Vinyl, Brick Veneer, Stucco, and None (open frame or skeleton). Choice affects cost, aesthetics, and maintenance requirements.

Results show total material quantities by category (framing lumber, roofing, siding, doors, windows, hardware) and estimated total cost. This is a bill-of-materials starting point. Actual materials needed may vary based on site-specific conditions and contractor choices.

Yes! Use 'Start Over' to clear the form and create a new estimate. You can experiment with different materials, dimensions, and systems to compare costs.

BuildaDraft is designed for small to medium residential structures (sheds, pole barns, garages, general buildings). Commercial projects with complex requirements may need professional architectural or engineering review.

BuildaDraft covers the most common building types. For unique or specialized structures, use our closest match as a baseline and adjust the details. For highly custom projects, consider consulting with a contractor or architect.
